This planet is hypothesized to exist because of the unexplained clumping of some long-period comet's orbits. That's why we can only see small objects when they're very close. Though meteorites may appear to be just boring rocks, they are extremely important in that we can analyze them carefully in our labs. A large asteroid named Adonis passed within 186,000 miles of Earth. For most of their orbits they  are far out beyond the orbit of Pluto, in the Oort belt at a  distance of 50,000 astronomical units from the sun, but for brief  periods they come in near the sun, and then they reflect its light  and we can see them.

Some of the constellations are labeled in this view, which shows many stars (smallish streaks) which all appear to be moving in a uniform direction, while the meteors (longer streaks) appear to be radiating from the constellation of Leo (if you were to trace their motion back).
