BACHATA is a partner dance that originated in the Dominican Republic, but is now danced around the world. The drums are accompanied by the rhythmical beating of the sticks and maracas. Only musicians directly associated with the dancers are those clapping their hands, using clappers or playing tambourines, drums, sistrums or other percussion instrument to beat out tempo and rhythm. There are two popular flavours: Modern (Continental) and Authentic. If the tempo is near 200 beats per minute (BPM’s) then the best waltz style is a Viennese waltz, which is much faster than the other forms of waltz.
